NOTE for registered users of StuffIt Deluxe 4.x or DropStuff 4.x
Expander will work in freeware mode until StuffIt Engine 5.0.2 or 5.1 is installed by either StuffIt Deluxe or DropStuff. When the StuffIt Engine 5.x is present, StuffIt Expander's expansion capabilities are greatly increased. The engine, available as part of StuffIt Deluxe and DropStuff, is used by many third-party applications to add compression and decompression to their products. StuffIt Expander, with the StuffIt Engine, can decompress and decode the following additional file types:
* Arc (.arc)
* AppleLink Package (.pkg)
* Compact Pro (.cpt)
* Lha (.lha, .lzh)
* MIME/Base 64 (.mime)
* TAR (.tar)
* Unix Compress (.z, .taz)
It is possible to have both StuffIt Expander 4.5 and 5.1 installed on the same system. We suggest that you rename one of the two applications so that you can identify which is which. Until DropStuff 5.1 is released, you can continue to use DropStuff and Expander 4.5 for those items that you get that are not supported by the freeware Expander 5.1.
Archives that have been created with StuffIt 5.x will have a red dot in the upper left hand corner of the icon. Drag those over the Expander 5.1 icon. Compressed items from other formats can be dragged over the Expander 4.5 icon and will use the installed StuffIt Engine from version 4.5 and decompress as it has in the past.
